Message From Our President

Does it seem as though I’m always asking for money or other donations? Well, I do have my hand out a lot, but I think you’ll agree that it’s always for a good cause. Because of the generosity of our members and guests attending our April general meeting, World War II veterans are more than $1,600 closer to having the necessary funds for the Lone Star Honor Flight trip to Washington, D.C. in May to visit the WWII memorial. At our May 5 meeting Leona Frank will be collecting canned goods for the food bank. And, I’d be really pleased if you’d fill out the “Blessings Tax” form in this Beacon and bring your “tax” money to the May meeting. The funds from this fun project will go toward paying our speaker, Eric Golub, who will be coming May 25 for our big event for fellow Republicans.

The Republican primary election is finally over and congratulations to judge candidates Lisa Michalk, Claudia Laird and Debra Lehrman, who won their races. Ms. Lehrman, who ran for Texas Supreme Court, has a Democrat challenger in November, so be sure to get out the vote for her. Lisa and Claudia are unopposed in the fall, so they are finished with campaigning, but would appreciate your vote in November anyway. The turnout of votes in the April 13 runoff for these 3 races was pretty dismal. We need to do much better for the May 8 election, even though it’s nonpartisan. You can go to the Montgomery County website to see what’s on your ballot.

The May 5 NSRW meeting will be the last regular meeting until September, but our very important fundraiser is scheduled for Thursday, June 3. I know, we’re asking for money again, but this is one of the ways we meet our budget and keep the organization running. Besides, it’s fun! The theme is Hawaiian Luau, and it will be held at Cork This! In Montgomery from 6-8 p.m.

I’d really like to see you at our May 5 meeting at the Bentwater Yacht Club, the Eric Golub event at the North Montgomery Community Center in Willis on May 25, and of course our June 3 fundraiser. Thanks.
